I chose not to publish your comment that was left in regard to the 10:30 pm class on New Year's Eve. It just seemed a little too personal and possibly like you were just blowing off a little steam. I'm sorry you are unable to join us and I wish you the best for a happy and productive new year.
Due to a recent security breach (we was hacked!) we have temporarily disabled all user accounts.
As our regular clients know, we don't always strictly enforce our policy of closing the doors 5 minutes before the scheduled class time. However, we always retain the right to do so and we just entered our busy season.
I'm just sayin....
update - This message has been updated with a corrected date. The benefit is December 31 at 4:00 pm.
This month's benefit class was chosen by BYD student Mark Auger. Here's Mark,
Heath Evans had a 10 year professional football career including stints with the seattle seahawks, new england patriots and new orleans saints. His wife had been a victim of sexual abuse as a child so after Heath retired, they established the heath evans foundation to support victims of abuse. You can check out their website at: www.heathevans.org.
It takes a lot of courage to support a cause like this. No one wants to talk about this type of abuse. This is why I felt like channeling my anger about it into something positive. I was inspired by the recent events at Penn State to do a 30 day challenge to raise pledge money for this charity and my company acceptance capital is supporting the cause as well. Due to a pretty severe knee injury (I've had 9 surgeries) I haven't been able to complete a traditional 30 day challenge. I was able to get through 15 consecutive classes before needing a bit of a break. My goal is to complete 30 classes in 40 days and I am on track to achieve that goal next week. I will be working to get more pledges through the fb page this week. I just received a $150 pledge from a friend which is very encouraging.
Saturday, December 31, 4:00 pm. All proceeds from this class will be donated to the Heath Evans Foundation in honor of Mark's challenge.
I mentioned previously that we signed up with Dwolla. Here's the back story...
This 28-Year-Old's Startup Is Moving $350 Million And Wants To Completely Kill Credit Cards
Who's gonna be the first to pay for yoga with Dwolla?
We just signed up with Dwolla. This is a new payment system, similar to Paypal but with lower fees.
I'm very excited about this. We're also going to be able to start accepting payments from Square very soon.
I'll say more later but I wanted to get word out so you can think about signing up. These two services could help us reduce our credit card processing fees, enabling us to continue to offer the lowest hot yoga prices in Atlanta.
We'll be just about finished with the standing series at 11:11:11 tomorrow morning, Friday, November 11, 2011, which happens to be Bikram Yoga Decatur's 9th birthday (this sentence would have been more fun if we opened two years earlier).
Tomorrow is also Veteran's Day. Please be sure to thank the veterans in your life for their service and sacrifice.
In honor of our studio's birthday we will be giving a present tomorrow to one randomly selected client during each class.
Have you been to our studio but not for a long time? Have you been thinking about coming back? Now's the time. Any existing BYD client who has not attended class in 2011 is eligible for 30 Days Unlimited Attendance for only $50!
Offer expires Nov. 30, 2011.
Rebecca "H" Causey took 2nd place in the USA Yoga Southeast Regional Competition and will be attending the 2012 Nationals. Congratulations and good luck.
The Bikram Challenge is a way to take your practice to a new level and it's simple to undertake. Simply commit to attend 30 classes in 30 days or 60 classes in 60 days. The main reward is in the practice itself but we're going to sweeten the pot by adding this incentive: Complete the 60 Day Challenge and we'll give you $60 credit towards any product or class card. Complete 30 classes in 30 days and receive $30 credit.
You must sign up before October 22.
There are no cancelations for Columbus Day.
Why does this holiday always sneak up on me?
The Posture Workshop with Afton Carraway is sold out but we have started a waiting list in case anyone cancels. If you're interested just give your name and phone number to whoever is at the front desk.
We have lowered the price of our Auto-Renewing Monthly Unlimited Class Card from $120 to $115*. The new price saves $10 per month and $120 per year from the regular cost of a Monthly Unlimited Card. For those of you who attend an average of 3 classes per week this can bring your average price per class to under $10.
Unlike a lot of other companies that offer this kind of service we do NOT require direct access to your bank account. The fee is charged to either a Credit or Debit card of your choosing. The only requirement is a three month commitment, after which you may cancel at any time without penalty.
* If you are already signed up for Auto-Renew your monthly renewal rate has been adjusted to the new price effective August 10, 2011.

The 4:00 pm class on the last Saturday of every month is a benefit class. Attendance cost for benefit classes is a minimum donation of $15, payable by cash or check only. BYD class cards may not be used.
This month, July 30, we are supporting the very exciting and extremely effective, Busoga Trust America, Inc. (BTA), a non-profit working to combat disease and poverty in the developing world. They are currently developing sources of clean water, along with sanitation facilities and hygiene education in the rural parts of Masindi District, Uganda. Since starting work in April 2008, they've completed 40 projects serving near 20,000 people with clean water and improved sanitation and hygiene.
BTA is an especially unique and worthwhile charity for many reasons, not least of which are:
If you are unable to attend the benefit class but would still like to help you may donate through their web site. Be sure to include a note letting them know the donation is coming through Bikram Yoga Decatur so they will match it.
We now have an "auto-renew" program for Monthly Unlimited class cards. You can save $5 per month ($60 per year) by signing up for auto-renewal. Most studios that offer this kind of payment require direct access to your bank account but we offer it with credit or debit card payments. The only requirement is a 3 month commitment with the option to cancel easily and without penalty. Sign-up forms are available at the front desk.
On Saturday, May 28, the 4:00 pm class will be a benefit for an exciting new program that brings yoga to veterans.
Two of my good friends, Stacie Smith, a psychotherapist practicing in Decatur, and William Huffschmidt, owner of Jai Shanti Yoga Studio, spend every Wednesday afternoon teaching yoga to homeless veterans and veterans living within a shelter program for addiction. This "Yoga for Homeless Heroes" class has a strong attendance and people leave the class feeling, "rested, peaceful, strong, calm." Many say that the class is the highlight of their week.
Even if you are unable to attend the benefit I hope you will consider making a donation online: Veteran's Yoga.
All funds raised will be used to expand the all-volunteer program by recruiting more instructors and adding more class times.
Existing Bikra Yoga Decatur class cards may NOT be used to attend benefit classes. Read more about our Benefit Class Program.
We'd like to find a FMPro developer to help us create a program to track our product sales and, more importantly, our client card purchases and class attendance. Interested people should use the contact form or call or come see us in class.
We've been trying to come up with a solution to a recurring challenge regarding yoga mat placement in the studio. As our business has grown we have been seeing more of you arriving early to class to "claim your spot" in the room. This inevitably results in conflicts as more than one person becomes attached to "their" spot. The resulting tension would be counter productive and inappropriate in any business but absurdly so in a yoga studio. So, for the last few weeks our staff meeting discussions have included a lot of brainstorming over what to do about this and we finally settled on a plan which we'll be implementing immediately.
It just wasn't sustainable. Apologies to those of you who liked to attend the 8:00 am class (all 6 of you).
BYD Emergency Weather Hotline: 404-654-0413.
In bad weather I am not always able to update the studio answering machine so use this number if you're wondering about cancelations due to snow or icy roads.
This item is in brand new condition. It's a quiet class at which students can get more personal attention than in a typical large class. It's not too early, nor too late. It consists of the same 90 minute, 26 posture series that Bikram practitioners have come to depend on.
Going once...
Going twice...
Anybody?
Starting this afternoon our new full regular schedule is in effect. There will be two more classes today at 4:30 & 6:30 pm. See the schedule page for the full list of class times.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this nerve-wracking week of uncertainty and cancelations.
I have been asked several times over the years if we ever turn people away because our classes are too full. I have always been proud to say that in 8 years we have never turned anybody away.
Alas, that's no longer true. I'm sorry that we had to turn away several people from the 4:30 pm class today (Friday, January 7, 2011). I'm very sorry if you were one of those unfortunate people. I'm sure you don't want to hear this but it really hurts us more than it hurt you. This is the last thing we want to have to do but we have a responsibility to our clients (that would be you) to operate in a safe and efficient manner.
Please always try to arrive early. If you arrive in the last 5-10 minutes we might not be able to let you in.
To help minimize these occurrences we are adding 9 10 new class times to our schedule starting January 17 14. See the schedule page for details.
Starting on Monday, January 17, we are adding a total of 7 new classes each week. These are all due to your many repeated and insistent requests so please thank us by attending them. See the schedule page for the complete schedule but here are the highlights:
Early risers can now practice at 6:00 am five days a week (M-F).
Parent's dropping their kids off at school can attend an 8:00 am class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Late weekday sleepers can roll out of bed in time for our Noon class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Friday 6:30 pm class is back for those of you whose idea of the perfect End of Week Happy Hour is a 90 minute sweat.
And we have resumed the 9 & 11 am choices for Saturday mornings.
All classes are the same 26 posture, 90 minute, beginner's series and all other class times remain unchanged.
The deal LivingSocial.com closed at 5:00 am on Monday, Dec. 27. Closed means closed. As in not available. Done. Finished. Seriously.
As was clearly explained in the deal terms, no one will be allowed to redeem more than one deal for themselves. It is strictly one person, one deal and only for the original recipient. If you bought more than one deal for your own use you have until Jan. 1 to cancel the extras and get your money back. After that there is nothing we can do. Log in to your account for details.
The 30 Day period begins whenever you want it to as long as it's before Dec. 27, 2011.
All clients are required to fill out a waiver. You can get a head start by downloading the waiver and bringing it with you already filled out. Download Waiver. This is strongly advised in order to avoid long check-in lines before class.
Attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. It is not possible to make an appointment or otherwise reserve space ahead of time. Please arrive at least 20-30 minutes early.
If you are new to Bikram Yoga please visit our Read Me! and F.A.Q. pages.
Starting about mid-January we will be adding at least a couple of new class times to the schedule. We will almost certainly be going back to 9 & 11 am for Saturday morning but we may do even more. You can offer suggestions through the contact page.
Due to the number of requests we are offering an End-of-Year 30 Day Challenge. Attend 30 classes in 30 days and be rewarded by feeling rejuvenated, re-charged, re-energized and re-born (some describe it as an operating system re-boot). You will also be rewarded with a Free 5 Class Card upon completion.
If you’re new to Bikram Yoga this is an opportunity to discover amazing things about yourself and your abilities. You will be physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually transformed. If you’ve already got a regular practice then the Challenge will be an opportunity to take it to a profoundly deeper level. Read more...
